roatian education is for the most part government sponsored, meaning that all primary and secondary schooling if free. In some cases if a student does well enough at secondary school their higher education will be free as well. //
With its diverse lands and regional differences Croatia has plenty to offer all sorts of holiday makers. The option of the traditional summer holiday by the sea is available, for the more active there are a number of activity based holidays which include walking and hiking, cycling, skiing, diving and even kiteboarding. Cruises are also an option and there are ones that not only explore the coastal region of Croatia but also other areas of the Mediterranean.
Zagreb the country’s capitalhas maintained its Central European charm has quickly become a lively metropolis and thus has grown in popularity over recent years. It has plently of sights to see from Trg Bena Jelacica which is the main square in the city to Dolac market. There are also a number of events that are held throughout the year and these start with the Snow Queen Trophy, an FIS Skiing World Cup slalom event, at the beginning of January.
During the summer months of June, and July there are a number of notable events such as Amimafest which is a world festival of animated film. There is a annual Rally, Lake Jarun is the home to T Mobile’s INmusic festival and there is a ten day long festival, C’est is d’Best, which has musicians, actors, street performers and dancers taking part in various acts across the city. The international folklore festival is also held in Zagreb and lasts for five days in July. Later in the year there is the Zagreb Film Festival and towards the close of the year there is the VIP Zagreb Jazz Festival. Due to the fact that it is the country’s capital cheap accommodation is very hard to come by, but the price paid to stay in this bright and culture city is not wasted.
Another popular destination and the country’s most tourist developed area is Istria, it is the easiest to access from Western Europe and its landscape has been compared to Tuscany. Umag and Porec year on year top the charts with tourists. Like Zagreb, Istria has many events throughout the year which make holidaying in the region so rewarding. January has a two day Jazz event called Jazzbina Winter Edition; April has the Ethno Film Festival which is held in Rovinj while June sees the start of “Porec Summer” on, or around, the 16th of the month and runs right through until approximately the middle of September. There are many dance and music events taking place, it is recommended to check for local listings to be kept up-to-date. August has the Terra Magica Music Festival and a Street Arts Festival, the final event of the year is the Handmade Fest which takes place towards the end of October.
There are vast options with regards to accommodation in Croatia and the most popular resort by far is that of Porec. Other popular destinations include The Brijuni Archipelago islands, Pula, Kvarner and Opatija. There are many national parks and historical sites to visit across the country and many of the larger holiday companies have a range of package holidays suitable for all tastes and desires.
